The odds are currently in favor of me seeing my next script under the bright lights. For I have a producer who appears to love one of my scripts enough to put their full force behind it. Yet most of the following conditions (below) will have to be met before I actually step in with my own investment in time, $$$… and love.
DISTRIBUTION- I must be presented a clear plan for distribution not based on what could be but what is in the marketplace today and in the near future. This plan must contain a way simple formula for compensation of such work as well.
INVESTORS- There must be a plan for us to seek some investment capital in the project and at least one investor must be willing to jump into these waters. My Producer should formulate this discussion with initial investors.
NAMES- This is actually step 1 in a way for without the “names” few distribution avenues will be open to push the project along.
BUDGET- A detailed budget must be produced with the high end to produce said project and the low end to do so.
MARKETING- This is part of said budget but is often neglected in making the film.
CREDIBILITY- Talk is cheap and action with the work I’m currently trying to produce and/or perform in should occur before negotiations can truly begin.
RISK- Do all the key principals believe in the project enough to take their own gamble in it?
LEGAL- One can get tied in the weeds reviewing factors but basic legal control of such film throughout the process should be negotiated before action is called. Editing constraints must also be included.
